Who are we?

Rio Grande Flight Academy was established in Laredo, TX in early 2017 by 2 professional pilots/instructors. With an active aviation community in the Laredo area, it was surprising to find that there was not a fixed wing flight school within a 2 hour drive. Within a short time of word getting out that these pilots were also instructors, the phone began to ring non-stop. The need for a fully operational flight school to serve both fixed wing and rotor wing students was evident. As a result, Richard and Spencer founded Rio Grande Flight Academy to do just that!
With a combined total of more than 30 years flight instructing, these guys bring more to the table than just your average flight school. They have experience in aviation that incudes everything from government contract flying in war zones to mission flying in the Amazon jungle, from banner towing to corporate aviation and everything in between. Not only do they have the highest certificates and ratings in the industry, they also have the experience to back them up. Currently, Rio Grande Flight Academy is the only fixed wing flight school between the San Antonio and McAllen areas and the only dual rated flight school in South Texas.
We operate out of a private hangar at the Laredo International Airport and we only hire the best instructors.
